Joe McMurrian Quartet
Joe McMurrian

Joe plays an interesting mix of prewar blues styles (delta and piedmont). Joe is a great singer/songwriter, and an animal of a guitar player. With the quartet (Jason Honl on upright bass and Jimi Bott on drums (www.jimibott.com) ), This rhythm section has some of the biggest ears I’ve ever played with, and are fearless. The band mixes in heavy doses of improvisation. I call this music cryptic Americana Blues because of the lyrical content and the old and deep influences that they conjure. We play a weekly gig on Tuesdays at the White Eagle in N. Portland, and are starting to tour more. We have a live cd coming out soon. It’ll feature the band playing without a net….

Drunken Prayer
Drunken Prayer

Drunken Prayer plays balls out Americana roots rock. Strong gospel, blues, country and rock influences, D.P. plays the original music of Morgan Geer, a firebreathing vocalist and guitarist. Backed by a bad-ass rhythm section and pianist. As a harp player and newest member of an established band, I’m working my parts out live and at rehearsal. I’m working on horn parts and melodies that weave in and out of the song. I’m also playing guitar, and maybe accordion (whatever the song needs).

Spigot

Spigot

Spigot is the brainchild of a twisted woman named Nann Alleman. I have played with her since 1998. Singer/songwriter/instrumentalist/lunatic is a good way to describe her and her music. I always think of her as a lot like Beck and Frank Zappa, with more of her American roots music showing through. We play mostly originals, and it sounds like a mix of rock, country, prewar blues, and early swing. Anyone Anyone who writes songs from a punk rock and old time string band perspective is a-ok in my book! I think it’s one of the reasons I’ve been playing with her for so long. Songs about garden slugs, cats on boats, the warm spot on the bed, and bottom feeders! The rhythm section of Joe Ciusano on bass and Ned Folkerth on drums is one of the best I’ve ever played with. They’ll go ANYWHERE! And Joe can sing like a bird! Ned can tell you the capitol of any country in the world!
I play harp, accordion, and sing in Spigot.

Mark Lemhouse
Mark Lemhouse

Mark plays a heavy style of trance blues, in the vein of R.L. Burnside, Mississippi Fred McDowell, and Robert Belfort (his mentor), as well as Americana roots music. Mark was nominated for a few W.C. Handy Awards a few years ago, and is known as a blues player. But he’s also a great songwriter and one of the deepest singers I’ve worked with. We play as a duo, or as a trio with Ned Folkerth on drums(the Mean Machine). Mark, Ned, and I recorded on an Oingo Boingo tribute record together, reworking the new wave song “Who Do You Want to Be Today?” into a trance blues rave up. www.deptofrecords.com

Darrin Craig and Old Boy
Darrin Craig

Darrin is the main vocalist/songwriter in bluegrass band Jackstraw. I have been playing old time string band music, as well as Darrin’s original folk/country songs, since 1997. We play together as an acoustic duo, or with his full electric band, Old Boy. This is pure Americana country rock. Simple, heartfelt music. Darrin is a deep singer and weaves beautiful melodies throughout his music.

Hillstomp
David Lipkind with Hillstomp
Hillstomp is the two headed monster of Henry Krammerer and John Johnson. They play an intense style of gutbucket trance blues. I recorded on their first two studio albums, and appear live as a special guest from time to time.

Lewi Longmire
Lewi Longmire

Lewi is a multi-instrumentalist and go to guy in Portland. We found ourselves hired into many bands as side players, and struck up a great relationship. Lewi has a killer band, and I guest with them at times, or sometimes with Lewi as a duo. Lewi comes from that strange place where roadhouse country, blues and rock all meet. A hell of a singer and guitarist, and one of the best persons I’ve ever met.

The Runaway Boys
The Boys have played together since high school, and are a fun mix of rockabilly, country, and rock music. They all can sing and play their asses off, and their chemistry together cannot be ignored. Dewy rights great songs, Handsome Jon (from I Can Lick any SOB in the House), plays a mean guitar (as well as produces their recordings), and Flicks is a great upright bass player. The band is rounded out by the passionate drumming of one Flap Jack Texas (of I Can Lick any SOB in the House.

Old Yellers
This Americana roots band is the brainchild of songwriter Michael Berly, and features Portland bass monster Matt Voth, and guitar wizard Darrin Joye. This band mixes roots rock, Irish music, and folk into an interesting mix.
